In order to implement the consensus of the San Francisco meeting between the heads of state of China and the United States, and to promote the cooperation and exchange in the field of vocational education between China and the United States, on June 14th, commissioned by the China Education Association for International Exchange, under the guidance of the Department of Education of Jiangsu Province, the University successfully hosted the first session of the 2024 China-United States million college presidents cloud hand in hand with the Sino-American dialogue between the presidents of the colleges and universities of vocational education in the United States and the United States. An Yan, Deputy Secretary General of China Education Association for International Exchanges, and Yang Shubing, Deputy Director of Jiangsu Provincial Department of Education, made video speeches. Yvonne Chan, Chair of the Board of Directors of the Los Angeles, California Department of Education, Jay Brewster, President and Chief Academic Officer of Pepperdine University, Chairman of the Board of Directors of the Jiangsu U.S. Higher Education Coalition, Xie Yonghua, Secretary of the Party Committee of the University and President of the University, and Monte Perez, Chief Counselor of the California Community Colleges. -Monte Perez, founder of the Center for Global Education, Anthony Jackson, former vice president of education at the Asia Society, and the heads of the member schools of the Jiangsu U.S. Higher Vocational Education Cooperation Alliance and other experts in the field of vocational education in the U.S. and China attended the event.
On behalf of China Education Association for International Exchange (CEAIE), An Yan expressed warm congratulations on the conference. She pointed out that China has the largest vocational education system in the world, and deepening cooperation between China and the United States can promote the reform of vocational education and meet the needs of economic and social development. It is hoped that the two countries will strengthen educational cooperation and create more opportunities for humanistic exchanges for the youth and people.
Yang Shubing, on behalf of the Jiangsu Provincial Department of Education, congratulated the 2024 China-US Vocational Education Colleges and Universities Presidents' Dialogue on the event. He pointed out that Jiangsu, with its developed economy, openness and tolerance, is a highland of science education and talents in China. Yang Shubing invited American students to visit Jiangsu and put forward three expectations for the cooperation and exchange of higher vocational education in Jiangsu and the U.S. Firstly, to improve the cooperation mechanism, secondly, to strengthen the cultivation of talents, and thirdly, to expand the humanistic exchange.
Yvonne Chan expressed her welcome to the delegation of headmasters of Jiangsu vocational colleges and universities, stressing that students need to learn not only professional skills, but also communication skills, teamwork and leadership, in order to enhance their social competitiveness. It is hoped that this event will promote Sino-US cooperation in vocational education and cultivate more international technical and skilled talents for the development of global industries.
Jay Brewster, on behalf of the host school, welcomed the delegation of Jiangsu American Higher Vocational Union. He introduced the history, scale and college settings of Pepperdine University. Afterwards, Fabian Scalzo, Associate Professor of Pepperdine University, gave a keynote speech on "Artificial Intelligence and Education".
Xie Yonghua gave a keynote report on "Overview of Vocational Education in China and Exploration and Practice of NAMI", focusing on the overview of the development of vocational education in China, the exploration and practice of vocational education in NAMI and the effectiveness of Jiangsu-US Higher Education Co-operation Alliance. Xie Yonghua pointed out that the Chinese government takes vocational education as an education type as important as general education, constantly increases policy supply, innovates system design, accelerates the construction of a modern vocational education system, and builds a diversified pattern of school running and a modern governance system. As the first public undergraduate vocational college in China, Nanjing University of Technology has actively explored various aspects of professional construction, talent cultivation, university-enterprise cooperation, and international exchanges, and achieved remarkable results. It is hoped that with this dialogue activity as an opportunity, the vocational education counterparts in China and the United States can have extensive exchanges, learn from each other, and promote the high-quality development and high-level enhancement of Jiangsu U.S. higher vocational education exchanges and cooperation.
In the symposium, nearly 20 presidents of Chinese and American vocational education institutions conducted in-depth discussions around the effectiveness of vocational education transformation, the roles of government universities and the community, school-enterprise cooperation, enhancement of students' global competitiveness, vocational education curriculum, faculty selection and training, and the innovation of teaching mode and other topics.
During the meeting, the university signed a memorandum of cooperation with Pepperdine University on mutual exchange, teacher exchange, student exchange, skills competition and other aspects of cooperation.
The event was held online and offline simultaneously, and more than 100 Chinese and American experts and scholars participated in the dialogue activities in online form.
